On Friday night we had Christy and Kevin over for dinner. It was a lot of fun. We made tacos and burritos and talked a bunch. Then we played Pass the Pigs and Pit. Two games which I had never played before, so I was excited. Pass the pigs was entertaining. I didn't think the pigs would land anything but on their sides but sure enough. It was such a simple game which is very nice sometimes. Not hard to learn and quick to play too.
Pit was also fun. Much louder and quicker, but also easy to learn. Overall, I would give both games two thumbs up.
It was great to hang out and have a good time with a couple of good friends. Oh and Christy can make some awesome brownies! Yum! This is a definite must do again.

Golf
Woot!
Take a look at our cute little car!
We finally ditched my old, boat of a car, Chevy Lumina for a newer and much cuter VW Golf. I think it is terrific and it fits us. I love how I can actually make a u-turn in this car. :)
Oh and it has a sun roof... which is just so much fun to have. Although, we might not get too much use out of it now, because it is getting colder here. I wonder how it drives in the snow. Hmmm???
The back seat isn't bad, although I don't think our friend Kevin would like it back there, but for the people under 6 foot tall its nice.
And it the best thing about this car is... We will actually be able to drive down to Albuquerque for Christmas and not stress about not making there or back. HURRAY!!

A blessing and a curse
Today as we always do on Wednesdays we get together with my family, but today we celebrated Spencer's 6th Birthday. He is so smart and funny too. We got him a cool puzzle with the Nick cartoons on it, the book How to Eat Fried Worms, and a t-shirt that says "I'm probably not listening to you."
Anyway, that is not the point to this blog... My sister comes in and says that no one in our family can leave a short voicemail. Also that in those voicemails we tend to repeat the information multiple times. LOL, it is so very true and I admit I am completely guilt of it. I think it is one of our family curses. Another is the real topic of this blog...
Have you ever been in a crowded store and suddenly some complete stranger starts talking to you like they have known you their entire life? No? I have... many, many, many times. It is great if you are some place where you want to get to know people, like church (although, in our ward have the people can't seem to remember that we have had some of these conversations before). But if you are in the middle of a busy McDonald's minding your own business and some lady starts telling you about her kids and their love for teletubbies, you might tend to get a little weirded out... like I did.
I will give you some examples:
This past weekend my mom and I (it seems to be stronger when there is more than one of the women in my family together) had to run some errands. We stopped at Cingular, got a new sim card for my phone... no big. Then to the hardware store to make some duplicate keys... Here the fun starts. There is one older gentleman here and he starts talking to us about this and that when another employee comes up and also starts talking to us. Finally we get to the register and the cashier talks to us about how no one carries cash any more and things of this nature. We get out the door and it is off to Papa Murphy's Take and Bake Pizza. When we get the I called Chris for him to preheat the oven. As soon as I am done the woman behind me starts talking to us about how she set the oven for the wrong temp and will have to call her husband and walk him through how to set the oven. Okay, so you are thinking this is normal, but do they tell you the exact kind of oven they have and what her husband does for a living? I didn't think so.
Okay, now here is a prime example:
Chris and I were in the mall one Saturday and we split up and we were going to meet by the pet store. I saw Chris heading there and started to walk after him. In order to get to the pet store we had to walk through a group of people surveying people for this or that. Chris walks right through them not a single person asks him. As I walk through FOUR people stop and ask me. It was plain and clear after the first guy asked that I didn't want to take the survey, but still three more asked.
Oh well, such is life. I could list you hundreds of time things like this have happened to me and the other women in my family... my mom and I got asked to help pick out an outfit for someone's daughter's first day of school... when my mom went back to the hardware store because one of the keys didn't work another employee told her that he was moving to Florida because he had invented something and the company that bought it was paying for him to move and have a condo out there... every time we go into a store some one will ask me if I am finding every thing okay, but won't ask Chris... the list goes on and on.
I have come to take this as a blessing and a curse. Blessing because I can get to know most people fairly easy and I feel that others seem to find me as some one they can talk to. A curse because if I'm in a hurry that is when it usually hits the most. :)

Labor Day Weekend
This weekend was great! Saturday was nice because we were able to sleep in (although, the one day we get to Chris didn't, crazy boy) and later that evening Don, Marietta, and Jessica arrived in town and came over for a bit.
Sunday Sabrina and Brad made it in time for all of us to go to church. Chris and I teach the CTR 6 primary class, but this Sunday one of the other teachers was mia so we got to take the CTR 5 kids into our class along with our usual kids. After church we all went back to our apartment and Chris and I made lunch. We were a little nervous to make lunch for everybody because 6 out of 10 times we make something it doesn't turn out right. We decided to make Hawaiian Haystacks. We have made these a bunch of times so we had high hopes that it would turn out well. Thankfully, all went well. :)
Monday morning came too soon. 5:00 sneaks up on you pretty quick and then you realize it is 5:30 and you really need to be out of the house by 6:00! Well, we got out of the house by 6:15 and then realized that we still needed to get gas. So, sadly we just missed Sabrina starting the race at 7:30. :( But we did catch up to her at another part of the race, where we were able to cheer her on and take some pictures. At 10:00 and 45 seconds we saw Sabrina cross the finish line! Hurray! I am very impressed. 13 miles in 2.5 hours is terrific. Very inspiring... hmm.
Anyway, after a little cool down time Sabrina and Brad went back to their hotel to shower and cool down a bit more, while we drove around Garden of the Gods. That is such a cool place. Chris got some terrific pictures that I want to put up in our apartment.
Then lunch at Joe's Crab Shack. Yum! Good food. And home again, home again.

Sloths
Have you seen the movie Ice Age? It is a pretty funny one. I haven't seen the second one, but with my family I don't need to. My mom is crazy. She really likes to talk like the sloth in that movie. She starts talking like that and we all start doing it and then before you know it we are all cracking up. Have you ever tried it? Try saying "cold slaw" with a bit of spit in the back of your throat and holding it back there with your tounge. I think that is how you would do it. Or maybe it is keeping your tounge on the roof of your mouth while you say it. Either way the results are hilarious.
On Wednesday night we were doing this and came up with the idea to ask sales clerks if they carry cold slaw like that. I think it would be really funny.
Have fun trying to sound like him. :)
